Beware of Fake WordPress Hosting Review Sites

Fake WordPress hosing reviews sites have really become a problem in 2014.   Many of the WordPress review sites you find through search engines are filled with biased falsified information.   The website will review the best or fastest sites according to which host pays them the most commission on affiliate sales.    These sites usually look believable, and have lots of convincing graphs, charts, and figures.   The problem is the research and information is influenced by sales commission and not hosting factors.

In the video we pretend to be a person who is interested in finding a Fast WordPress host.    Hosting is quite often the cause a slow WordPress site, so this seems like a reasonable thing someone would search for.   We clicked on the first result which happened to be http://www.wpsitecare.com/performance-of-7-top-wordpress-hosting-companies-compared/.   We analyzed the article and caught this website attempting to hide affiliate links in each of the webhosts they claim “Are the top 10 best”.  We even analyzed their source code, they referred to all the links to hosting companies as “bacon links” clearly showing they are driven by profit, and not driven by recommending the best WordPress host for you:

If you further analyze the data you’ll find that this site actually recommends some of the worst hosts to host a WordPress site. Take #2 which is blue host for example, when we did a reverse IP domain check, we found the following:

  • There were over 1000 websites hosted on the same server. This is extremely overcrowded and will cause performance issues on just about any WordPress website.
  • Adult content was detected during the reverse IP Domain test. There are a number of reasons why this should concern you.
The Results Are In…

100% Full of it

Be very careful when viewing WordPress hosting review sites. Always watch the links on the pages where they recommend hosts. If you see affiliate, af, or a bunch of random numbers and letters anywhere in the link after you cross over to the new host, or in the actual link to the new host, then exit off the site and move on to the next. The presence of any of the above mentioned items means that website is promoting hosts that pay them commission for recommendations.
