There is another name for shared web hosting, and it is virtual hosting, and on the other hand you have dedicated hosting. In this article we are going to see what the advantages of both these types are and why it is a good idea to choose shared and/or dedicated hosting. Sure, they are benefits and it is important for you to figure out which type is better for you, but at the same time there are drawbacks for both types as well. Before choosing the host, you have to make a decision about the type of the hosting in the first place.
What does it mean to have shared hosting?
There is another name for this type of hosting – virtual, which means that your website is going to share the space on the server with some of the other websites, but since there is only one IP address for each server, that basically means that all the websites on the same server have the same IP address as well. The bottom line is that your website is going to share that same address with other websites, and that is not all. At the same time, you will not have a chance to get your own space, since that is shared on the server as well.
Still, there are many benefits of this type of hosting. You don’t have to pay as much as for dedicated hosting services, and in most cases it is going to cost you from 4 to 20 dollars per month, give or take. Also, it is much easier to set up a website if you have chosen to use shared hosting, and you don’t have to think too much about organizing the files on your website, back up, etc…
Don’t be surprised, though, when you realize that the server is a little bit slow, that it crashes, that there are many problems when it comes to the IP address or sharing the server space. Those are only some of the drawbacks of shared hosting.
Is dedicated hosting much better?
The answer to this question is not easy to give, but if you are looking for something more, and if you want your website to be recognized online, you definitely need to use dedicated hosting. That means that you have your own server, and an IP address as well. You are the one who is controlling absolutely everything when it comes to your website and on the server. That way you don’t have to worry about the security, and that the server is going to crash, since that is not going to happen.
The response is going to be very fast, your users will be able to check out your website with pleasure and they will never have to wait in line in order to visit your site. Still, there are some drawbacks, and the first one is the price, since you have to pay a little bit more for dedicated hosting.
